أكد وزير الخارجية السوري، أسعد الشيباني، اليوم الأحد، على التوصل إلى اتفاق مع رئيس الحكومة اللبنانية نواف سلام، يتضمن اتخاذ خطوات عملية عاجلة تهدف إلى إنهاء معاناة السوريين الموقوفين في سجن رومية بلبنان.
وقال الشيباني عبر منشور على منصة “إكس” بعد لقاءه برئيس الحكومة، إن النقاش تمحور حول ضرورة التسريع في حل أزمة السوريين المعتقلين، مؤكدًا أن هناك اتفاقًا على مجموعة من الخطوات العملية التي ستُنفذ في القريب العاجل لتخفيف معاناتهم.
وأضاف الشيباني أن الحكومة السورية تولي اهتمامًا كبيرًا لإنهاء هذا الملف بأسرع وقت ممكن، مع الإشارة إلى أن بعض تداعيات سنوات الحرب قد تستمر لفترة، ما يتطلب تعاونًا مكثفًا بين الجانبين اللبناني والسوري.
يأتي هذا الاتفاق في وقت تصاعدت فيه المواقف السياسية اللبنانية، الرسمية والحزبية، تجاه الوجود السوري في لبنان، خاصة بعد سقوط نظام الرئيس بشار الأسد في ديسمبر الماضي.
وقد بلغ التصعيد ذروته مع تصريحات رئيس التيار الوطني الحر جبران باسيل، الذي اتهم الحكومة اللبنانية بالتهاون تجاه المخاطر الناتجة عن استمرار وجود اللاجئين السوريين، مطالبًا بترحيلهم فورًا. ووصف باسيل اللاجئين بـ”المحتلين” في تصريحات حادة أثارت جدلاً واسعًا ووصفها ناشطون بالتحريضية.

Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Sheibani announced on Sunday that he reached an agreement with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to take immediate practical steps aimed at ending the suffering of Syrian detainees in Roumieh Prison, Lebanon.
In a post on the social media platform X following his meeting with Mikati, al-Sheibani emphasized the necessity of accelerating the resolution of the issue facing detained Syrians, confirming an agreement on several practical measures to be implemented soon to alleviate their hardships.
Al-Sheibani added that the Syrian government is fully committed to resolving this file promptly, noting that some repercussions of years of war might persist, necessitating intensified cooperation between the Lebanese and Syrian governments.
This agreement comes amid heightened political tensions in Lebanon concerning the Syrian presence, especially following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December.
The tensions peaked with remarks by Free Patriotic Movement leader Gebran Bassil, who accused the Lebanese government of leniency regarding the perceived risks of the continued presence of Syrian refugees and called for their immediate deportation. Bassil described the refugees as “occupiers,” comments that sparked wide controversy and were labeled as incitement by activists.
While Lebanese officials argue that the Syrian presence has caused severe economic losses and deepened social and economic crises in Lebanon, international reports suggest that the refugee issue is not the direct cause of these crises but rather part of a complex reality that demands comprehensive solutions.
