“سجن تاجر تحف فنية في لندن بعد بيعه أعمال لـممول مشتبه به لـحزب الله”
قضت محكمة بريطانية بسجن تاجر تحف فنية لمدة سنتين وستة أشهر، بعد إدانته بعدم إبلاغ السلطات المختصة عن بيع تحف فنية “قيّمة” لشخص يُشتبه بتمويله “حزب الله” اللبناني، وفقًا لوكالة الصحافة الفرنسية.
وأصدرت محكمة أولد بايلي الجنائية في لندن حكمًا بسجن أوغينوتشوكو أوجيري، البالغ من العمر 53 عامًا، بعد بيعه تحفًا فنية بقيمة 140 ألف جنيه إسترليني (أي ما يعادل 190 ألف دولار أميركي) لناظم أحمد، الذي يُشتبه بكونه ممولًا لـ”حزب الله”، المصنف كمنظمة إرهابية في المملكة المتحدة.
وقالت القاضية بوبي تشيما غراب في حيثيات القرار: “كنتَ على علم بأن أحمد مشتبه بضلوعه في تمويل جماعات مسلحة، وبطرق استغلال سوق التحف الفنية من قِبل أشخاص مثله”.
اعترف أوجيري بالذنب في ثماني تهم تتعلق بعدم الإبلاغ عن معلومات يوجب قانون مكافحة الإرهاب التصريح بها، ويُعتقد أنه أول شخص يُدان بهذه التهمة في بريطانيا.
وكان أوجيري، الذي يملك معرضًا فنيًا في لندن، قد ظهر في برنامج تلفزيوني على قناة “بي بي سي”، وباع لأحمد، الذي بقي اسمه طي الكتمان، ثماني تحف فنية بين تشرين الأول 2020 وكانون الأول 2021.
ويُعد أحمد جامع تحف فنية ثريًا ومقيمًا في لبنان، وكانت الولايات المتحدة قد فرضت عليه عقوبات في عام 2019 للاشتباه بكونه ممولًا “رفيع المستوى” لـ”حزب الله”.
وبحسب النيابة العامة في إنجلترا وويلز (Crown Prosecution Service)، كان أوجيري “على علم بالعقوبات المالية” المفروضة على أحمد، وسعى إلى “إخفاء هوية المشتري الحقيقي عبر تغيير التفاصيل على الفواتير”، كما حفظ رقم أحمد على هاتفه تحت اسم مموّه.
وقالت بيثان ديفيد، المسؤولة عن قسم مكافحة الإرهاب في النيابة العامة: “يبدو أن دوافعه كانت مالية، مقرونة برغبة أكبر في تعزيز سمعة معرضه الفني من خلال التعامل مع جامع تحف معروف”.
تم توقيف تاجر التحف في نيسان 2023، في اليوم نفسه الذي أعلنت فيه حكومة المملكة المتحدة فرض عقوبات على أحمد.
وفي عملية مشتركة مع وزارة الأمن الداخلي الأميركية، ضبطت شرطة لندن عددًا من التحف الفنية التي يملكها أحمد، وكانت محفوظة في مستودعين بالمملكة المتحدة، من بينها أعمال فنية لكل من بيكاسو وآندي وارهول.
واعتبر دومينيك مورفي، رئيس قيادة مكافحة الإرهاب في لندن، أن “هذه القضية يجب أن تكون تحذيرًا لجميع تجار التحف الفنية بأننا قادرون على ملاحقة من يتعاملون مع أشخاص مصنّفين ممولين لجماعات مسلّحة، وسنقاضيهم دون تردد”.
“Art Dealer Sentenced in London for Selling Works to Suspected Hezbollah Financier”
A British court has sentenced an art dealer to two years and six months in prison after he was convicted of failing to notify the authorities about selling “valuable” art pieces to an individual suspected of financing Hezbollah, according to Agence France-Presse.
The Old Bailey Criminal Court in London sentenced 53-year-old Ogenochukwu Ojieri for selling art valued at £140,000 (approximately $190,000) to Nazem Ahmed, who is suspected of being a financier of Hezbollah, a group classified as a terrorist organization in the UK.
Judge Bobby Cheema-Grubb stated in the ruling: “You knew that Ahmed was suspected of being involved in financing armed groups and exploiting the art market by people like him.”
Ojieri pleaded guilty to eight charges related to failing to report information that is required to be disclosed under anti-terrorism laws. He is believed to be the first person convicted of this offense in the UK.
Ojieri, who owns an art gallery in London, appeared on a BBC television program and sold eight pieces of art to Ahmed, whose identity was kept confidential, between October 2020 and December 2021.
Ahmed is a wealthy art collector residing in Lebanon, and the United States had imposed sanctions on him in 2019, suspecting him of being a “high-level” financier for Hezbollah.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Ojieri “was aware of the financial sanctions” imposed on Ahmed and sought to “conceal the true identity of the buyer by altering invoice details,” and even saved Ahmed’s number under a false name on his phone.
Bethan David, head of the Counter Terrorism Division at the CPS, added: “It seems his motivation was financial, combined with a greater desire to boost the reputation of his art gallery by dealing with a well-known art collector.”
Ojieri was arrested in April 2023, on the same day the UK government imposed sanctions on Ahmed.
In a joint operation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, London police seized several art pieces owned by Ahmed, stored in warehouses in the UK, including works by Picasso and Andy Warhol.
Dominic Murphy, head of Counter Terrorism Command in London, stated: “This case should serve as a warning to all art dealers that we are able to pursue those who knowingly deal with individuals classified as financiers of armed groups, and we will prosecute them without hesitation.”
