بعد أن وصفها ترامب بـ”دولة مجهولة”… مملكة ليسوتو ترد بقوة!
فوجئت حكومة ليسوتو بتعليقات الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب التي سخر فيها من الدولة الواقعة في جنوب قارة إفريقيا، حيث تعهدت الحكومة بأنها “لن تأخذ الأمر باستخفاف” بعد التصريحات التي أطلقها ترامب. فقد وصف الرئيس الأميركي ليسوتو بأنها “دولة لم يسمع بها أحد من قبل”، وذلك خلال دفاعه عن سياسة تخفيض المساعدات الخارجية في خطاب له أمام الكونغرس يوم الثلاثاء.
وأوضح ترامب في خطابه أن الولايات المتحدة كانت قد خصصت مساعدات أميركية سابقة بقيمة 8 ملايين دولار لمشروع يهدف إلى الترويج لمجتمع الميم في ليسوتو، رغم أن هذا المشروع لم يتم ذكره على الموقع الرسمي للمساعدات الخارجية الأميركية. وأضاف ترامب قائلاً: “لم يسمع بها أحد من قبل”، وسط ضحك المشرعين الجمهوريين، ما أثار ردود فعل غاضبة من حكومة ليسوتو.
وفي تصريح له لوكالة “فرانس برس”، عبّر وزير خارجية ليسوتو، لوجون مبوتوجوان، عن صدمته وخجله من تعليقات ترامب، مشيرًا إلى أن الحكومة لم تكن تتوقع أن يشير رئيس دولة إلى دولة أخرى ذات سيادة بهذا الشكل.
وتتمتع الولايات المتحدة بسفارة في العاصمة ماسيرو، حيث يعمل متطوعون أميركيون في برنامج فيلق السلام في ليسوتو. وأضاف مبوتوجوان: “نحن لا نتعامل مع هذا الأمر باستخفاف، وسوف نرسل خطاب احتجاج رسمي إلى واشنطن”.

After Trump Called It an “Unknown Country”… Lesotho Kingdom Responds Strongly!
The government of Lesotho was taken by surprise by U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments in which he mocked the country located in Southern Africa. The government vowed that they “will not take the matter lightly” following Trump's remarks. During his defense of reducing foreign aid in a speech to Congress on Tuesday, Trump referred to Lesotho as a “country that no one has heard of before.”
Trump clarified in his speech that the U.S. had previously allocated 8 million dollars for a project aimed at promoting the LGBTQ+ community in Lesotho, though this initiative was not listed on the official U.S. foreign aid website. He added, “No one has heard of it before,” which was met with laughter from Republican lawmakers, triggering a strong response from the government of Lesotho.
In an interview with Agence France-Presse, Lesotho's Foreign Minister, Lesego Mpotjoane, expressed that the government was “shocked and embarrassed” by Trump's comments, stating that they did not expect a head of state to refer to another sovereign country in such a manner.
The United States maintains an embassy in the capital, Maseru, where U.S. volunteers serve in the Peace Corps program in Lesotho. Mpotjoane added: “We are not taking this matter lightly, and we will be sending an official protest letter to Washington.”
