شدد رئيس الجمهورية العماد جوزاف عون في حديثه الأخير على أنه “لم يعُد مسموحاً لغير الدولة القيام بواجبها الوطني في حماية الأرض والشعب”، مؤكدًا على ضرورة حصر قراري الحرب والسلم واحتكار السلاح بيد الدولة. كما أكد تمسكه بإقرار سيادة لبنان بشكل كامل، ودعا إلى تعزيز دور الدولة اللبنانية في حماية أراضيها.

وفي حديثه لصحيفة “الشرق الأوسط”، أكد الرئيس عون وجود إجماع سياسي على الالتزام بتطبيق القرار 1701 الذي يقتضي انتشار الجيش اللبناني على أراضي لبنان كافة، مشيرًا إلى أن هذا القرار “ليس محل بحث”. ومع ذلك، حذر من التسرع في اتخاذ أي خطوات قد تضر بمصلحة البلاد.

He further warned that “hatred does not build nations” and stressed that Lebanon needs national unity and reconciliation among its people to restore its strength and regain its position as it was before the 1975 Civil War, “the Switzerland of the East.” He stated, “Lebanese people need to forget the past, unite, and work together to rebuild Lebanon.”
