Syrian Interior Minister Announces Foiling of a “Coup Plot” in Key Security Development After Assad's Fall

Syrian Interior Minister, Anas Khattab, announced that the Syrian government had successfully thwarted what he described as a “coup plot” being prepared by a group of former Syrian regime officers. This announcement marks a significant security development in Syria following the fall of the previous regime and the departure of President Bashar al-Assad from power in December of last year.

In an official statement issued today, Wednesday, Khattab explained that the operation was carried out through direct coordination between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense. He confirmed that the Syrian security agencies managed to “stop the coup movements at an early stage,” without revealing the names of the individuals involved or providing further details about their arrests.
