Project Background

“Syndicates & trade unions, mostly political & sectarian unions, have been inhospitable to women’s leadership. While they depend heavily on women as voters, election canvassers and event organizers, few women have so far reached decision-making positions. Women’s equality is generally viewed as secondary to the party’s political and sectarian priorities. To this end, the project aims to achieve transformative change within the structures of targeted unions and syndicates by supporting them to enhance women’s role and access to decision making space, both in terms of enhancing the number of women in leadership positions, by enabling women to enhance their leadership skills and agency to push for policies and incentives to increase women’s representation in decision making within their organization and to promote measures to increase the organization’s commitment to implement policies that are fostering gender equality and women’s rights.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Read given material and research industry-specific terminology
•  Convert text and audio recordings from one language to one or more others
•  Ensure translated content conveys original meaning and tone
•  Prepare subtitles for videos and online presentations
•  Cross-reference specialized dictionaries and translation tools to check quality of translation, proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy
•  Follow up with internal team members and clients to ensure translation meets their needs
•  Edit content with an eye toward maintaining its original format (e.g., font and structure)
•  Network with field experts to stay current on new translation tools and practices

Educational Background, Experience and Required Skills

Educational Background and experience:

1.  Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter or similar role
2.  Fluency in at least two languages in addition to your native language
3.  Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors
4.  Good knowledge of content editing tools
5.  Familiarity with translation software

3. Ability to demonstrate commitment to achieving the end result;
