PROCOL Lebanon and Lebanese Spotlight are looking for people who are interested in improving the lives of people in Ras El Nabaa, and would like you to become part of our project team as a Local Researcher. We are seeking people who represent the diversity of Ras El Nabaa to work on a research project about social solidarity in the neighbourhood.
This project “Ras El Nabaa Community Development Initiative” is a two part project which includes, in its first phase an elderly support program and in its second phase community consultations for an upcoming urban intervention to improve conditions of a main street in the neighbourhood.
This project aims to connect elderly communities and involve them and other members of the community in the decision making processes of street improvements.

Phase 1: Elderly Community Social Intervention

This phase will take place from January to June 2024. Local researchers will recruit Elderly participants and survey public spaces in Ras El Nabaa where the elderly can meet on a weekly basis. With this timeframe, the following questions will be addressed: What are the interests of the elderly of Ras Al Nabaa? How can we support them in their isolation due to the multiple crises Lebanon is undergoing?

Phase 2: Urban Intervention Consultation

This phase will take place end of June, July and August 2024. Local researchers will co-design and conduct interview and focus group questions with members of the Ras El Nabaa community. They will transcribe these sessions, summarize them, and present them to the community.
Successful candidates will be paid for completed training and research activity tasks. You will be part of a diverse team, working with the PROCOL Lebanon and Lebanese Spotlight in Ras El Nabaa.
We seek to recruit a diverse team. Therefore, we are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who reflect the diversity of Ras El Nabaa. We welcome applications from people from all sections of the community, irrespective of nationality, gender, age, disability, religion or belief.

THE MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:
•
Gather elderly around a public space in Ras El Nabaa
•
Conduct interviews and Focus Groups with members of the community
•
Report back regularly on the progress of the work

Prepare presentations summarizing your work
•
Abide by ethical principles of working as a Community Researcher
IN GENERAL:
•
Attend and actively participate in training sessions about research methods and ethics
•
Attend and actively participate in team and community meetings
•
Share data and research findings with the team
•
Be present mainly in Ras El Nabaa
•
Be part of a team with other community researchers
LOCAL RESEARCHERS MUST BE:
•
At least 18 years old
•
Knowledgeable about Ras El Nabaa, its different areas and communities / your community
•
A confident communicator who is sensitive to different environments and vulnerable groups and the expectations of different groups involved in the research
•
Good facilitation skills
•
Good presentation and transcription skills
•
Able to work independently, to take initiative, and willing to be flexible
•
Reliable and punctual

Receive induction and trainings:

Phase 1: Saturdays January 27, February 3 and February 5 2024.
o
Phase 2: All Saturdays in June 2024

Allocate time to recruit elderly and organize activities for them from January to June 2024
•
Conduct up to 10 interviews and 2 focus group discussions during the months of June July and August 2024 (specific dates are subject to change but the time commitment remains the same)
