Bitcoin Reaches One-Month High as Yen Weakens<\/strong><\/p>\n

The cryptocurrency Bitcoin surged to its highest level in a month on Monday, continuing a rally sparked by the U.S. Federal Reserve\u2019s interest rate cut last week, while the yen continued to weaken in thin trading due to a public holiday in Japan.<\/p>\n

The U.S. dollar strengthened against the yen last week after monetary policy decisions in both the United States and Japan, reaching a two-week high of 144.50 yen. On Monday, the dollar was trading at 144.16 yen.<\/p>\n

The Bank of Japan kept its interest rates unchanged last week and indicated that it was in no rush to raise them. This decision, following a 50 basis point cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve, ended the yen's recent gains, with the Japanese currency rising by 1.4% in September.<\/p>\n

With Japanese markets closed for a holiday, the main driver of trading was expectations of further interest rate cuts in the U.S., which benefited riskier assets such as stocks, commodities, and cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin climbed 1.8% to $63,954, hovering near a one-month high, while Ether also rose by 3% to $2,660.30, its highest level since late August.<\/p>\n

The Australian dollar gained 0.4% to $0.68355, extending a 3% rally over less than two weeks.<\/p>\n

The U.S. dollar index, which tracks the greenback against six major currencies, stood at 100.75, maintaining levels above last week\u2019s one-year low.<\/p>\n

The euro held steady at $1.1165.<\/p>\n

According to the CME\u2019s FedWatch tool, traders expect the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates by 75 basis points by the end of this year, with an additional 200 basis points of cuts by December 2025, bringing rates down to 2.75% by the end of next year.<\/p>\n

The Bank of England left its interest rates unchanged last Thursday, with its governor cautioning against cutting rates “too quickly or by too much.”<\/p>\n

Sterling remained relatively unchanged, trading at $1.3315, close to the highs reached on Friday following strong UK retail sales data.<\/p>\n
